2. Prepare a preference form well before the counselling date.
So, now that you know your facts well, hop on to the preference form. Start preparing a preference form at 4-5 days before the Off Campus Counselling date. You might mentally have an idea of what colleges you want but when you actually putting it down to paper – believe me – it becomes very difficult. You may get in new ideas. Discuss with your parents and relatives. Below is an example to help you..
Computer Science, HBTI
Computer Science, IET
Electronics, HBTI
Electronics, IET
Information Tech, HBTI
Mechanical Engg, IET
Computer Science, JSS
Paints Technology, HBTI

Note that the above list is only an indicative one, just to demonstrate. I just wanted to explain that it’s not necessary to place all branches of a college in order (Paints, HBTI is placed below CS, JSS) You may swap them in whichever way you like.
And when you do prepare a preference form, post it on the forum here so that others can place their remarks or derive help.
3. Participate in Off Campus Online Counselling.
Many people don’t participate in the Off Campus Online Counselling. Don’t do commit that mistake. Also note that the indicative seat allotment chances shown during this time may vary from the actual counselling allotment – because of the fact that not all aspiring students fill in their choices.
The interface for both Off Campus and On Campus Online counselling are the same, so it gives you a thorough feel of how it’s going to be on the actual date.
4. Get your Demand Drafts made well before the counselling date.
Get the money, Honey! Sometimes due to delays beyond your control, you get into unnecessary anxiety. Make sure you have the DDs prepared well before the counselling date. After all who knows when there is a strike or a system failure at your local bank?
5. Carry all necessary Documents.
To avoid any kind of anxiety or panic on the actual counselling date, make sure you carry all the required documents required along with multiple photocopies (atleast 5) to the counselling centre.
Below is a list of documents you need to carry
• Your Counselling Letter.
• Your UPSEE Admit Card.
• Class 10 passing Certificate.
• Class 10 Marksheet.
• Migration Certificate from the Board–available from school.
• Transfer Certificate available from School.
• Date of Birth Certificate – if available.
• Demand Drafts with photocopies
Edit(thanks for this sweety!) - And finally certificates related to caste/category if applicable.
Take the photocopies of each one of these. Arrange all these documents neatly in a folder and make sure you don’t loose that folder!
6. Reach the Counselling Centre early.
The filling of options at the counselling centre on your allotted day is in no way related to the rank you’ve got. It’s purely on a first come first serve basis. That is because the processing of options filled by the the candidates takes place in the evening when everyone has cast his/her choice.
So it really doesn’t matter even if you get half an hour late. But since it’s on a first come first serve basis, you’ll have to wait a longer time in the queues every where (There’s a queue for everything!) So the more early you reach there, the more early you can come out.
7. Be Confident and Don’t Panic.
Be confident of the preference form you’ve prepared. Sitting there in the counselling centre, don’t make changes at your will. Stick to your preference form. Your parents won’t be allowed inside the counselling centre but you can carry mobiles. So call your parents at will, the authorities don’t stop you from doing that. Fill your choices confidently and hope that you get the seat of your choice!
All the best!
