a) Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
b) Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
c) Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master’s degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master’s degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering / Technology.
d) Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(I), AME by ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

If you meet the above eligibilities, you can obtain Information Brochure-cum-Application Form from designated Bank Branches corresponding to each zone by paying the application fee in cash (Rs. 1000/= if you are a GENERAL category student and of Rs. 500/- if you belong to SC/ST category).

What does the GATE application packet given by these banks contains:
It contains the Information Brochure, Basic Data Sheet (BDS) cum Application form, Acknowledgement Card and the Envelope for enclosing the documents.

After receiving the application packet from these banks:
1. Check that the application number is identical in all the above mentioned documents in the application packet. If there is any discrepancy, report to the Chairman, GATE of the corresponding zonal GATE office.

2. Fill in the BDS cum application form
Read the Information brochure. FILL in the BDS cum application form by referring to the chapter- 4 (Titled: Instructions for filling and submission of Application Form) of the Information brochure.

3. Obtain SC/ST/Disability Certificate if you wish to apply in any of these categories.
SC/ST/Disability certificate should be obtained from appropriate authorities. A list of authorities who can issue SC/ST certificates is given in chapter- 4.3. (Authorities empowered to issue Certificates) of the information brochure.

4. Fill in the Acknowledgement Card and the Envelope. Place the BDS cum Application Form, bank pay-in-slip/receipt of payment, Acknowledgement card and if applicable, the SC/ST and /or Disability certificates in the provided Envelope.

5. Send it to the respective zonal GATE office depending on the first choice of the examination city where you wish to appear. The envelope with enclosures may be handed over personally to the respective zonal GATE office or be sent by SPEED/ REGISTERED POST only.

Just to remind you of these GATE-2009 application form important dates:
The offline GATE-2009 forms would be available at the designated banks only from 22nd Sept, 2008 (Mon) to 24th October 2008 (Friday).
Last date of submission of GATE-2009 form is: 29th October 2008 (Wednesday)

What after submitting the forms?
You can appear in the examination only against valid admit cards. If you do not receive it by 31st January, 2009, you should contact the GATE Chairman of the zone concerned.

Although above information is meant for GATE-2009 aspirants, but the same can also be used for all future GATE aspirants for reference purpose, for example GATE-2010 aspirants etc.
